I don't have a photo of Caroline.

Caroline was born in New York where her parents had been early settlers in Malone.  She and Orin were married in New York and lived there for about 10 years. She and Orin left New York in about 1852 and went to Illinois for a few years, then moved on to Iowa.  Her health wasn't good for most of her life and that she suffered from asthma.  Orin moved often, trying to find a place that would be better for her.  In the early 1870s they traveled through Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas, finally settling in Geuda Springs in 1872, hoping to improve Caroline's health in the hot springs there.  However, she died in the spring of 1874.

After Caroline died Orin stayed in Geuda Springs for the rest of his life.  The land  he bought there had hot springs on it so he built a hotel and resort there.

According to a history written by Cora, Caroline's granddaughter, Caroline "came from a religious family and was religious herself. She taught her children to pray and to read the Bible. She would go to her room and pray often, probably for strength and wisdom to care for her large family. My father [Amos Pierce Ward] said she seemed to realize that there was something coming in a religious way that she would not participate in, and he heard her pray that one of her children at least might be led to accept the truth."
