George Ison was born 9 April 1800 at Maxstoke, Warwickshire, England, the son of Charles Ison and Mary Walton.

George Ison, bachelor, of this parish (Maxstoke) and Hannah Shaw, spinster, of this parish were married in the
church by banns 26 July, 1821. Witnesses: Elizabeth Shortherd, Charles Ison, Henry (?).

Although a common laborer, George learned to read and write.

A large, athletic man, George entertained the local people by participating in boxing and wrestling matches. His
mother, Mary Walton Ison, attended his matches well into her old age. She sat ringside and cheered her son on by yelling, "Beat 'im Georgie, or I'll beat thee!" as she struck the ground with her cane to emphasize the fact.
George died 12 October 1851.
